Managed care organizations do more than cost control; many insurers are actively working to inspire their members to take better care of their health. While having a preferred status on a formulary is always an advantage, there are options that a brand can pursue in addition to a comprehensive overview of pivotal clinical data and health economics to support the organization’s formulary decisions. Maintenance programs and tools (such as diaries and other record keeping options) for chronic diseases are being tested by these organizations. As new technologies begin to automate the process of keeping patient health metrics, new opportunities exist for brands to get involved.
